Tested the way a bridge inspector would test it

Every coil carries a test record keyed to its heat number. Nothing is packed until the tensile result is in, and nothing ships without a certificate your engineer can file.

What is measured, and why it matters

Four properties decide whether a strand will behave as the design assumed over the life of the structure.

Tensile strength

The minimum breaking load of the finished strand is verified against the grade. For 15.24 mm ASTM A416 Grade 270 strand this is 260 kN; for 12.7 mm it is 184 kN and for 9.53 mm it is 102.3 kN.

Elongation at failure

Elongation is reported to confirm ductility. A strand that reaches the specified load but fails with too little elongation is not a compliant strand, even though the breaking load looks correct.

Relaxation over 1000 hours

Low-relaxation strand is stress-relieved so that the prestressing force does not bleed away under permanent load. The relaxation result is what separates a low-relaxation product from a normal-relaxation one.

Dimensional and visual check

Diameter, lay length, wire ovality and surface condition are checked before packing, because lay length and coating condition affect bond and fatigue behaviour in service.

Documentation

What arrives with your shipment

A buyer or inspector should be able to match every delivered coil back to its test record.

01

Mill test certificate

Issued to EN 10204 3.1, covering tensile strength, yield load, elongation and relaxation for the heat numbers supplied.

02

Relaxation report

Batch relaxation results reported against the low-relaxation requirement of the applicable standard, typically 2.5% or lower at 1000 hours.

03

Packing list and tags

Coil weights, tag numbers and packing details so the delivered material can be reconciled against the order and the test record.

04

Third-party reports

SGS, BV or Intertek inspection certificates added when the purchase order or the approved vendor list requires them.

Third-party inspection

You can nominate your own inspector.

Inspection by SGS, BV or Intertek can be arranged before packing or before loading at Qingdao port, and the buyer may also nominate an inspector. The inspection stage and scope are written into the offer so the schedule does not slip because of an unplanned hold point.

For orders governed by an approved vendor list, state the required inspection stage, the standard to be verified, the document format and the witness points in the inquiry. If a project engineer needs to witness the tensile test, say so early — that has to be scheduled against the production batch, not added after packing.

What buyers ask about testing

Documents

What arrives with a shipment?

A standard shipment carries a mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1 covering tensile strength, yield load, elongation and relaxation for the supplied heat numbers, plus the coil packing list and tag numbers. Third-party inspection reports from SGS, BV or Intertek are added when the purchase order requires them.

Relaxation

Is a 1000-hour relaxation test performed?

Relaxation is verified per production batch and reported against the low-relaxation requirement of the applicable standard, typically 2.5% or lower at 1000 hours for ASTM A416 Grade 270 strand. The relaxation report is issued with the mill test certificate; confirm the test scope for your order on the purchase order.

Inspection

Can I arrange third-party inspection?

Yes. Inspection by SGS, BV or Intertek can be arranged before packing or before loading at Qingdao port, and the buyer may nominate an inspector. State the inspection stage and scope in the inquiry so it can be priced into the offer and scheduled without delaying the shipment.

Traceability

How is traceability handled?

Each heat number is traced through drawing, stranding and stabilising, and the finished coil is tagged with its heat and batch reference. The mill test certificate links the reported tensile, elongation and relaxation results back to those references, so a buyer or inspector can match a delivered coil to its test record.

Need the test scope confirmed before you order?

Send your standard, diameter and inspection requirement — our export engineers will confirm the document set and the schedule.
