Independent US laboratory tests confirm our 12.7 mm and 15.24 mm strand meets ASTM A416
Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates (WJE) tested our 270 ksi low-relaxation strand in its laboratory in Northbrook, Illinois. Both sizes met ASTM A416 for strength, elongation and 1000-hour relaxation.
Global Overseas asked Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE), an independent engineering and testing firm, to check our 7-wire PC strand against ASTM A416. WJE tested one sample each of 0.5-in (12.7 mm) and 0.6-in (15.24 mm) strand, grade 270 ksi (1860 MPa), low-relaxation, at its structural laboratory in Northbrook, Illinois, USA.
Tensile test (report dated 23 October 2023). WJE followed ASTM A1061 and compared the results with ASTM A416. Both samples passed:
- Breaking strength: 12.7 mm, 192 kN measured (184 kN required); 15.24 mm, 272 kN measured (261 kN required).
- Yield strength: 12.7 mm, 175 kN measured (165 kN required); 15.24 mm, 243.2 kN measured (234.6 kN required).
- Elongation at maximum load: 12.7 mm, 6.29% measured (3.5% required); 15.24 mm, 6.54% measured (3.5% required).
1000-hour relaxation test (report dated 12 December 2023). Each strand was loaded to 70% of its specified minimum breaking strength and held for 1000 hours at 70 °F (21 °C). Load loss was 1.66% for 12.7 mm and 1.62% for 15.24 mm, below the 2.5% maximum in ASTM A416.
The reports were issued by WJE under project number 2023.5558. Engineers and buyers can download both reports from our Quality page, or ask us for the mill test certificate of a current order.
