Factory-applied protection
The grease coating and polyethylene sheath are applied in the factory, so protection is consistent rather than dependent on site grouting.
Coastal development project in UAE utilizing unbonded PC strand for post-tensioning of marine structures.
Global Overseas supplied unbonded PC strand for the Oceanscape coastal development in the United Arab Emirates, for post-tensioning of marine structures. Coastal and marine exposure is the most aggressive environment a post-tensioning system will see, because chloride ingress attacks steel unless the strand is fully protected.
Unbonded strand carries its corrosion protection with it: the strand is coated with corrosion-inhibiting grease and encased in a polyethylene sheath at the factory, so protection does not depend on grouting quality on site. That makes sheath integrity and anchorage protection the critical inspection points, rather than grout quality.
The grease coating and polyethylene sheath are applied in the factory, so protection is consistent rather than dependent on site grouting.
In a marine environment the sheath is the corrosion barrier. It must be inspected for damage before and after installation and repaired if cut or abraded.
Exposed anchorage zones need end caps or protective covers, because that is where the strand is most vulnerable.
The exposure class and the required protection level come from the project specification; the strand system has to match it.
